Mmm, not sure why I keep reading this series. It is the same silly characters doing the same silly things over and over and over. I think the real challenge to series writers is character development. We need to see our characters grow and I just don't see Stephanie or LuLu or Connie or Vinnie grow.
Are you planning on going to the movie this month? Really what will be left if we now have movie characters filling our mind and no growth? Instant death in my opinion. I feel like Evanovich sold us, her readers, right along with the the rights to her characters.
I wasn't crazy about the actors chosen for the parts. Are you?
I suppose I'll be the dork first in line for nineteen though.
I'm skipping the movie and eighteen. I am extremely disappointed with the casting. It is super awful. Bad bad bad. I'm also tired of the lack of progress. It is book 18! Okay done with my rant.

ReplyDeleteI've tried this series several times and couldn't get into. BUT I'm wondering if I'll dig the story as a film.

You could be the person the movie is marketed for - one that hasn't yet read the books. I just can't imagine anyone agreeing on any of the actors. We all must have the characters pretty much imagined perfectly in our minds. All humans will fall short of the task.
ReplyDeleteI started this series years ago and stopped for the same reason. They were fun, but it's so hard to keep a series new and fresh. I think Julia Spencer-Fleming does a great job with this in her Rev. Clare Fergusson and Rus Van Alstyne series. The characters change and format of the books change.
ReplyDeleteI love the series but I think every series should stop after 10 books. There isn't a single one that is any good after book 5 or 6. I'll probably read 19, because this stuff is like candy for me..the movie however..I'll wait for on DVD. Personally I wanted Queen Latifah for LuLu

ReplyDeleteI've read almost all of these books, loved some and laughed so hard I fell off a sofa. But others I didn't like at all. It's bound to happen.
P.S. The characters can't grow. This is a kind of a cartoon series. Or at least that's how I've always seen it. :)
ReplyDeleteTrue, Yvette. They can't grow. I guess I just realized how frustrated I was with Stephanie this time around. She just needs to make a choice! Do you want to be someone's babe or someone's cupcake? It can't be that hard to decide. I caught my attention straying a few different times.
