IT'S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Brought to us by BOOK JOURNEY

what i read:

The Annotated Pride and Prejudice Shame the Devil (Excelsior Editions)

I am now moving on from Pride and Prejudice.  I was quite reluctant to read this novel again but after yesterday's Courtship and Seduction class and a very good class discussion, I have come to realize that P&P can be read a multitude of times and it will never get old!  On Wednesday, I will post a review based on my assignment to describe courtship rules of the 19th century and how Jane Austen uses seduction in her novel.

Shame the Devil by Debra Brenegan.  I will be participating in Debra's blog tour tomorrow, Tuesday, September 13.  This was a fascinating look at the very beginning of the women's rights movement in the mid-19th century.  It was a great novel pairing with Pride and Prejudice.  Please stop by tomorrow to read more!

what i am reading and what's been happening at BookBelle:

Jane Eyre (Readable Classics) The Borrower: A Novel

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.  This will be a re-read for my literature class.  At the end of the reading, I will write a reflection comparing the courtships  of Darcy and Elizabeth with Jane and Rochester.  Exciting, yes?

I am also reading a whole bunch of secondary sources to compare the male gaze Thomas Hardy puts on his female characters in Far From the Madding Crowd with Edith Wharton's female character(s) in Summer.  You all can cross your fingers that I can find 8 to 10 pages to write about this topic!
All of this, of course, makes me feel like I have to sneak my current "free" read novel, The Borrower, into the closet to read.  It is beginning to feel simply naughty to read my current pop fiction!  This book is really good with many of the scenes set in the children's library.

coming up this week and slightly beyond:

Seven: Seven Strangers One PurposeFar from the Madding Crowd (Modern Library Classics)Summer
On Thursday, September 15, I turn my blog over to 17 year old Paige Agnew, the author of Seven.  I will also be interviewing her later this month.  In my, ahem, spare time, I will begin reading Hardy and Wharton.

I also begin my very first writing class tonight!  I have waited a long time to do this and I am beyond excited!

See ya all next week!
