IN MY MAILBOX

In My Mailbox, hosted by The Story Siren,  is a way for everyone to show their new books for the week, including those bought, swapped, won, or received for review.

PAPERBACKSWAP

I do not keep too many of the books that I buy and read.  My bookshelves are only for my 5 star reading and, even then, just those that I think I will want to revisit again someday.  Having said that, I can usually build swap points at PBS rather quickly.  So, this week I decided to use some of them:

Thyme of Death (China Bayles 1)Hangman's Root (China Bayles Mystery)Rosemary Remembered (China Bayles Mystery)
The China Bayles series was first published in 1993.  I recently saw book 18 or 19 or something reviewed on a blog.  I had never heard of this amateur detective series but got a hankerin' to read it.  I received Books 1, 3 and 4 this week.

Love, Rosie

Cecelia Ahern's 3rd book.  I did not know that she is the daughter of (present/former?) Ireland's prime minister.  For some reason, I'm very intrigued by this author.

BELL BRIDGE BOOKS:

I was so excited to find in my mailbox a package from Bell Bridge Books

The Year She Fell by Alicia Rasley - The tragic mystery at the heart of their family has finally surfaced . . .
When Presbyterian minister Ellen Wakefield O'Connor is confronted by a young man armed with a birth certificate that mistakenly names her as his mother, she quickly sorts out the truth: his birth mother listed Ellen on the certificate to cover up her own identity, but also because Ellen is, in a way, related to the child.
Because the birth father is Ellen's troubled husband, Tom.  The secrets of the past soon engulf Ellen, Tom, and everyone they love. This drama of love, loss, family and betrayal will capture readers with its unforgettable power.(Back Cover).

The Goddess of Fried Okra by Jean Brashear - "Eudora Welty meets Sue Monk Kidd and they lunch with Fannie Flagg." --  Just Janga blog

This reviewer's description Brashear's book made me giggle.

Praise Jerusalem by Augusta Trobaugh - a rare mix of poignant drama but also wry humor. Both the elder Amelia and her childhood self are primly rebellious and irrepressible; Amelia's sharp eye for petty human foibles never fails her. (From Bell Bridge site).

For some reason, this week, I have began to pay attention to the book trailers where I have never before done that.  How do you all feel about those trailers?  I don't think I'm going to watch anymore of them.  Part of the magic of reading, for me, is to imagine the characters and settings in my own mind.  The trailers seem to interfere with that process.

  5. Great books this week. I've never heard of the China Bayles series before looks interesting.
For some reason I've never watched book trailers and I don't intend to. The blurb is enough for me.

  9. You know I've been wanting to read one of the Cecelia Ahern books I have, but I keep getting sidetracked. Even after the book I'm reading now, I'll probably move on to The Game of Thrones instead. Just not enough hours in the day I tell ya.

    Great IMM!
